Dewey Ray Howard, 72, of Covington Route 1, died Wednesday (Aug. 11, 1971) at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had been a patient eight days and had been ill four months. Born Oct. 20, 1898, in Gessie, he was the son of William H. and Mary A. Hobson Howard. He was married Feb. 20, 1923, to Ruth Shaw, who survives. A life resident of the Perrysville and Covington areas, he had been employed as a machinist at the C&EI Railroad Shops in Danville for 32 years before retiring in 1954. Mr. Howard was a member of the Old Rails and New Ties and the West Liberty Christian Church for 48 years where he formerly served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Other survivors include a son, Joe of Covington Route 1; three brothers, Cleve of Covington Route 1, Ernie of Aineswoorth, Neb., and James of Danville Route 4; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Thomas of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Alice Osborn of West Point Route 1; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He also was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers. Services Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Fogle officiated. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  -- typed by Walt W
